I need masculism because there I was minding my own business catcalling a stranger, when it turned out to be a man. He actually laughed at me too!! See, this is why challenging conventional gender roles isn’t just pointless, it’s also scary. Do you know how much God Of War I had to play just to reaffirm my manliness? Misandry is everywhere!
Glorious.

The Hyper Intelligent Bear: Deconstructing a Bullshit Meme
You had a great argument, but still to argue that Tebow is garbage, you also have to take into account that Jason Collins is also equal if not greater basura if you look at his stats as well. We can’t play a blind eye to his statistics simply because he’s coming out as a homosexual. Like that’s cool and all, liberation and what not, but he’s paid to be a great athlete and he’s not doing that still so I don’t care about him since he’s not taking the Wizards to the playoffs anytime soon and that’s the local team I gotta support.
The stats aren’t the point for Collins because he is not trying to come out as something that’s already popular and accepted. You’re coming out as being a Christian? That’s great, everyone already loves you. That’s not monumental, that’s mundane. Every President has been Christian. Most Congressmen have been Christian. Supreme Court Justices, CEOs, community leaders… this country is flush with them. So, what courage is there to stand up and proclaim you’re a Christian? None.
So, if your entire gimmick is your religion, then you’d best have something else to back it up. It’s old hat and comfortable. Being gay though? That’s a bold societal thing to embrace, ESPECIALLY in sport, where homophobia is still an accepted practice. Yeah, it would have been awesome if Collins averaged 25 and 10 with several Defensive Player of the Year awards in his mantel too, but the magnitude is equal regardless of the caliber of player. What Collins did by coming out was give the gay boy hope that he didn’t have to choose embracing his sexuality or playing sports at higher levels than high school.
That’s why Tebow’s stats matter, while Collins’ don’t.
It also should be said that Collins is playing a position with less internal scrutiny. Collins is a center in the NBA, but he is also a journeyman meant to be a warm body on the bench at this point in his career. He is there in Washington for when Kevin Seraphin is tired. And no one in this debate praising Collins coming out is discussing Collins’ work, unlike the internal debate with Tebow. No one will say next season that Collins (if he is on an NBA team) is suddenly helping them because he is gay, which was the implicit rise to Tebow’s popularity in the NFL. (The joke made was that God himself willed the Broncos to a playoff spot.)
The meme is dumb because it also assumes being gay is a choice and that being Christian is a persecution-level crime. A small deal of Christians love to use this complex. I still remember in high school when a girl in one of my classes was adamant that there would be a Christian holocaust that occurred in her lifetime. That thought is insane. The tweet and meme are not on that insane level, but they play with assumptions that are extremely dangerous for sure.
